As a follow-up to my latest post, I decided to create a playlist of some of the greatest songs to listen to when swingin’ through the South. A little feel good music, some laughs, and definitely something to sing along to. Kick up your boots and enjoy!
No. 1 : Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again”
A classic country singer, a catchy refrain, and it is part of the Forrest Gump soundtrack! This twangy tune is perfect for setting the mood for mini vacation.
No. 2 : Dolly Parton’s “Jolene”
Even if you are not a huge fan of country music, this song is absolute GOLD. A nice mixture of banjo and Dolly’s sweet voice, you’ll find yourself singing along to every chorus. Plus, everybody knows a Jolene!
No. 3 : John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads”
“Country ROOOOOOOOOOOOADS, take me HOOOOOOOOOOOOME, to the place, where I BELOOOOOOOOONG!!!!!!!”
You know this song! It’s your go-to at any open mic night, and it is a definite crowd-pleaser. Easy melody, simple lyrics, it’s the perfect Country Karaoke tune!
No. 4 : George Strait’s “All My Ex’s Live in Texas”
Okay, so maybe the Texan is a teensy bit biased on this one. It’s funny, clever, and talks about Texas. Plus, would you look at that smile???
No. 5 : Johnny Cash’s “One Piece at a Time“
Now y’all knew Johnny Cash would make this list! A funny quirky little number that is guaranteed to make you laugh… Be lucky you’re not riding in one of these!
No. 6 : Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama”
Y’all know why this is on here! Bet you’re already singing along in your head…
No. 7 : Darius Rucker’s “Wagon Wheel”
A lovely little rendition of this classic song that will have you swaying back and forth, and tapping your foot to the beat. If you were imagining an idyllic South, this is it!
No. 8 : Rascal Flatt’s Remastered Version of “Life is a Highway”
Upbeat, energetic, and overall spectacular. This song + a car-full of friends + the open road = a DAMN GOOD TIME.
No 9 : Alan Jackson’s “Chattahoochee”
A song that proves we all need a pair of boots and a cowboy hat! This fun melody will have you layin’ rubber and clapping along to the tune. Although, maybe not the most child-appropriate!
No. 10: Travis Tritt’s “It’s A Great Day To Be Alive“
A good song to remind you of what you are grateful for. Take it all in, and appreciate!
No. 11 : Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn’s ” Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man”
A little call-and-response is just what you need to liven up a quiet ride! Two southern singin’ legends, right here in one song!
No. 12 : Glen Campbell’s “Rhinestone Cowboy”
The original “I want to be famous” song from the South. Imagine yourself belting this one out in the car. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be a rhinestone cowboy???
No. 13 : Tom T. Hall’s “I Like Beer”
A fun song about something we all like. With choruses that come one after another, and the quick speeding up and slowing down, you’ll definitely be enjoying this one on your ride! ( But please, without the beer!)
No . 14 : The Charlie Daniel’s Band, ” The Devil Went Down to Georgia”
This is inarguably the best version of this song that exists. The song traces the ballad of a fiddle player and the Devil himself, and the dangerous consequences of such a bet. So tap your foot and sing along!
No. 15: Alabama’s “Mountain Music”
Nothing quite like the harmonies of Alabama! The lyrics aren’t too complicated, so have a little fun and go a little wild with this one!
Here’s a spotify playlist I created with all the above songs. Hope y’all enjoy!
Are there any songs you think should be on here? Let me know in the comments below!
